Turkey
My exposure to Turkeys started in the Flathead
Valley of Montana. We lived on the Creston Bench some 15 miles from Kalispell.
In the late 1960's a urologist from the Adirondacks brought eastern wild turkey
eggs to the Flathead Valley, hatched them under chickens and turned them loose.
It was soon apparent the turkeys were there to stay. I have to admit to hunting
for turkey before there ever was a turkey season. The rationale was how could
you be arrested for hunting something that did not exist? In the 70’s the
Montana Fish and Game recognized the Flathead turkey as a game animal and offered
a hand full of permits. I applied and hunted my first “legal” turkey
that year.
Across North America the turkey hunt has become the right of spring, and
what a wonderful game animal it is. Stalking and calling these smart birds is
very near to the experience of stalking and calling bull elk. It’s no surprise
that turkey hunting has gained the popularity it now has.
Preparing for the approaching turkey season
includes clearing out the remnants of last fall's hunting from my TruckVault
and setting it up for spring fishing, turkey hunting and varmint shooting.
Do you have a good hunting or fishing picture that includes your TruckVault?
If so, send them our way. And if we publish your picture, we will send you a
beautiful TruckVault Cribbage Board.
